Zwane promises stylish football for the Chiefs, but ‘no showboating’

New Kaizer Chiefs manager Arthur Zwane has insisted that one of his priorities at Naturena is to ensure the team regain their style of play.

Sleek with a bit of flair is what Amakhosi supporters can expect under Zwane’s guidance, but without showboating or unnecessary gimmicks.

“The Kaizer Chiefs have had their own style of play for a long time. As times went by and different coaches came in, it was a bit lost. But that’s what we’re now trying to bring back,” said Zwane.

He says the team has a group of young players who will fit into the model of how he wants the team to play. Zwane said the Chiefs’ reserve squad also had special players who needed to be properly prepared.

“There are players like Mfundo (Vilakazi), and not only him, we don’t prevent them from expressing themselves. I repeat, showboating will not help us in any way,” Zwane explained.

“Our reserve team recently won the (DStv) Diski Shield. And Mfundo is one of the players who scored. If you look at the goal he scored, it was magnificent.

“But if he had taken the ball and made the rounds first, we wouldn’t have scored that goal. It shows he has the ability to score goals at his young age. He can also sign players,” said Amakhosi’s mentor.

“He’s a special player, so now we’re working on him because we want to prepare him properly and not rush him. We’ve heard people say he’s so good he could play in the first team. But the road is long for him.

“He and others follow a special program which ensures that when the time comes, the transition to the first team will be easier for them,” Zwane said.
