The PGA Tour will not allow LIV golfers who qualified for the FedEx Cup playoffs in the first playoff event

The FedEx Cup Qualifiers will be deprived of three of its qualifiers next week; the PGA Tour will not allow them due to their involvement with LIV Golf.

Talor GoochMatt Jones and Hudson Swafford have been notified that they are not permitted to participate in the first playoff event, the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind next week.

The three golfers were looking for a temporary restraining order to play the event, arguing that they qualified before taking off for LIV.

Sports Illustrated emailed the tour asking if the three golfers would be allowed on the course, and their terse response was, “No.”

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan issued a memo in June stating that anyone attending LIV Golf would not be eligible to participate in Tour-sponsored events and the Presidents Cup.

“These players made their choice for their own financial reasons,” the memo reads. “But they can’t demand the same PGA Tour membership benefits, considerations, opportunities and platform that you do. That expectation disrespects you, our fans and our partners.

The top 125 players on the leaderboard are eligible for the first playoff event. Gooch, despite not having played in a PGA event since the Charles Schwaab Challenge in May, still ranks 20th. Jones and Swafford rank 62nd and 63rd respectively.

Gooch finished four Top 10s and a dozen Top 25s before heading to Greg Norman’s tour.

Jones and Swafford both missed the cut at their last PGA event in June, the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. Neither played at the US Open nor The Open Championshipwhile Gooch missed the cut at Brookline and tied for 34th at St. Andrews.
