Teenager shot while lying in bed, JPD says

Jackson police are investigating after a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot. LaGavin Jenkins Jr. was in his bedroom when he was hit by a bullet that someone fired into the house on the 300 block of Myer Avenue, according to Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart. Deputy Chief Deric Hearn said Jenkins was shot twice in the upper body. Officers responded around 1 a.m. Tuesday to a report of gunfire. Jenkins’ grandmother later found him dead in her bed, Hearn said. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.
