New Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has revealed that the warm welcome he received from the club and coaching staff helped him learn more about Buccaneers culture.

The Spanish-born coach was tasked with leading the Pirates in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season, after the club finished last season under co-managers Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids, who have since left the club. club.

Ncikazi is still part of Riveiro’s Pirates technical team as an assistant coach. The coaching staff also includes Riviero’s compatriot Sergio Almenara who comes on as an assistant coach, goalkeeping coach Tyron Damons, conditioning coach Miguel Bellver Esteve, also from Spain, assistant coach of conditioning Percy Moloi, rehabilitation specialist Stephen Plummer and performance analyst. “I have found a lot of people in the club who are ready to help me, I have found a fantastic group in the technical staff, very good professionals and human beings. Riveiro also spoke about the new captaincy at Pirates, with Innocent Maela having been chosen as skipper, while goalkeeper Richard steps in as vice-captain.

“The Pirates as a club have clear criteria on the type of captain we need. We are also involved in the process as the coaching staff and more specifically the players too. We are sure that Innocent and Richard will represent very the values ​​of Pirates.
