After the final siren sounded in Townsville, two ecstatic invaders burst onto the pitch and hugged Eels forward Isaiah Papali’i before rushing towards Mahoney.
Eventually, a member of the security staff rushed over and escorted the jubilant gentlemen out of the room.
“A little slow to react in Townsville, security,” laughed former New South Wales representative Michael Ennis on Fox League.
The Eels pulled off a massive 24-20 upset to book their place in the NRL Grand Final, where they will face the South Sydney Rabbitohs or the Penrith Panthers.
The Cowboys hadn’t lost their previous seven finals in Townsville, but the Eels broke that record in a daring performance on Friday night.
