DISNEY+ shared the trailer for their upcoming series Andorwhich also reveals a delayed release date.
Originally slated for August 31, the first three episodes of Lucasfilm’s original series, which take place before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Storywill now premiere on Disney+ on September 21.
The show is described as a new perspective on the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on the journey of rebel smuggler and spy Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). The series is said to tell the story of the Empire’s budding rebellion and how people and planets became connected. It’s a time of danger, deception and intrigue, and Cassian is about to embark on a journey that will make him a rebel hero.
Showrunner Tony Gilroy said: “It’s about him being really anti-revolution, and cynical, and lost, and kind of a mess. His adopted home will become the basis for our entire first season, and we see this place becoming more radical. Then we see another planet which is completely dismantled in a colonial fashion. The Empire is expanding rapidly. They annihilate anyone who stands in their way.
The first 12 episodes will cover a year, with the production of the second (and final) season covering the four years before A thug.
The series offers a multitude of returns star wars characters as well as several new ones. The very talented Forest Whitaker reprises his role as Saw Gerrera, a character first seen in A thug in 2016.
Meanwhile, Genevieve O’Reilly will return as rebel leader Mon Mothma. Caroline Blakiston first played the character in 1983 Return of the Jedi. Then, O’Reilly reprized the role in 2005. Revenge of the Sith and returned to A thug.
Joining them will be Stellan Skarsgard, Kyle Soller and Denise Gough. Adria Arjona, from Good omen, is the newest addition to the cast. Andy Serkis is set to reprise his role as ruthless Supreme Leader Snoke.
