Handgun found in locker of Lakeview Middle School student

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A handgun was found in a student’s locker at Lakeview Middle School Friday morning.

According to a notification from the Park Hill School District to parents at the school around 10:27 a.m. Friday, the building has been placed on hold while school officials and law enforcement investigate the weapon.

The district said the restraint was lifted around 11 a.m. after the handgun was secured. The notification says the student, a 13-year-old boy, has been located and removed from school.

The district said students and staff were safe during the incident and the school day resumed as normal beginning at 11 a.m.

The district said an investigation is still ongoing into the incident.
